Higgins calls on voters to make sure they are on Electoral Register

Ireland North West Fine Gael MEP Jim Higgins has called on the public to make sure they are listed on the electoral register for the forthcoming European and local elections.

"Given the absolute mess the Government made of the electoral register for the 2007 General Election it is very important that everyone checks they are listed on the register and recorded as living at the correct address.

"We also need to make sure that everyone knows where their local polling station is, while ensuring that people from other EU countries know they can vote in the local and European elections.

"If you want to make sure you are on the register you can check online at www.checktheregister.ie or by contacting your local authority. The deadline for registering on the supplementary register for the local and European elections is May 18th and forms must have been submitted and received by this date."
