Call for urgent funding for flood relief works in south inner city

Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Central, Catherine Byrne, and Fine Gael Councillor, Clare Byrne, have called for urgent funding to be provided for flood relief works in the south inner city.

Speaking this afternoon, Deputy Byrne said: ‘Urgent funding is needed to deal with the damage caused by the flooding in parts of the south inner last night. The area was inundated with a month’s rainfall in just a few hours, causing huge problems for homes and businesses. The Harold’s Cross, Parnell Road and Kilmainham areas have been particularly badly affected.

“I would also like to express my sincere sympathy to the family of the woman who lost her life in her home on Parnell Road during the floods last night. This is a terrible tragedy, and the thoughts of everyone in the community are with the woman’s relatives.

Cllr Byrne added: ‘I intend to table an emergency motion at Dublin City Council calling on the Government, as a matter of immediate urgency, to provide capital funding to replace damaged flood barriers in the Harold’s Cross, Kimmage, Kilmainham areas and that a report be brought to the South Central Area Committee as soon as possible’.
