John was elected initially in the 2009 Local Elections and subsequently at the 2011 Local Elections where he was first past the post. Married to Siobhan they have three children. He is a hard working, effective, strong and dynamic public figure. A graduate of the University of Ulster with a degree in Business Studies, he is keenly aware of the varied and considerable challenges which are unique to his electoral area due in part to its geographical location but also due to its political circumstances.
Furthermore he is a businessman, involved in the pub trade and he operates the Inishowen-based milk distribution service. A public representative with integrity, sensitivity and intelligence John appreciates the enormous challenges Donegal faces in getting people back into employment and will endeavour to secure much support to achieve this going forward.
John is dedicated to securing adequate support to deal with the sui generis issue, in order to provide a fair and equitable trading environment for businesses to grow and develop, within this context he will lobby strongly to have sufficient resources directed to the border area.
