Paddy is a medical doctor by profession but also hasa Commerce degree from UCD and a post-graduate diploma in Health Economics. He has worked in both public and private sectors as a Non-Consultant Hospital Doctor, a GP registrar, and also as a medical adviser in the pharmaceutical industry.
Paddy was raised in Terenure and his family have deep roots there. His grandparents opened ‘The Favourite’ newsagents on Greenlea Road in November 1950 and it’s still a thriving family business.
Paddy’s grand-uncle, Fr. Jack Corbett, was the founding president of Terenure College RFC and his late father, Dr. Mick Smyth, who captained and coached the TCRFC 1st XV, was a prominent GP in the area.
