Cllr Gerard Farrell
I am a beef farmer and manage the family business in Lanesborough. I am the third generation of the Farrell family to represent the Ballymahon electoral area as a sitting County Councillor. My grandfather and namesake was a County Councillor for many years and my father was one of the longest sitting Councillors in Longford until 2009.
I was honoured to have been elected as Leas-Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council for 2019-20.
In our business at home I am dealing with the community on all levels on a daily basis and I really enjoy it. I am also involved in a lot of community organisations. I’am Chairperson of the Rathcline Senior Football Club, Chairperson of our local Text Alert Committee and also Vice Chairperson of our Gathering Committee. Getting involved in community organisations over the past few years has given me a passion for it and I want to do more.
As a business person and farmer, I am fully aware of the strains people are under, with the lack of job opportunities, access to credit for farmers and small business and social housing issues. We have also gone through some very challenging budgets over the last ten years. However I do believe we are slowly but surely starting to turn a corner and it is time to get rural Ireland working again. Please feel free to contact me with any issues you may have – I look forward to hearing from you.
