I am from Enfield, Co. Meath where I have been living for almost 20 years. I am originally from Ballinabrackey Road, Rossan, Kinnegad, Co. Meath. I come from a farming background. My mother was a teacher. I am married to Sinead Bennis from Dublin, whose family originally came from Limerick. We have three children who are now all in post primary education. I qualified as a teacher from Carysfort College, Blackrock and began my teaching career in a new school in Celbridge, Co. Kildare. I worked there for 12 years including 2 years as a full time teacher of Physical Education (PE). I worked for the Department of Education and Skills as an advisor in School Development Planning with schools in Meath and Westmeath for 4 years from 2000-2004 and also trained as a presenter of In-service for teachers in PE. I have additional qualifications from NUI Maynooth, in School Leadership and in the Use of ICT in Education and a Higher Diploma from NUI Galway in Development Planning. In my first year as principal I completed a Masters in Leadership in Education in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra. For the past 10 years I have been principal of St. Mary’’s Primary School in Enfield which has grown from 185 children in 2004 to about 500 pupils in 2014. The recently opened 16 classroom school will have an additional 8 classrooms added in 2014 as the school was requested to take in 3 Junior Infant classes. I keep myself active by running and cycling. I completed my tenth marathon in Dublin in October 2013. I am a member of the local GAA and Athletics clubs and the Clonard Cycling Club. For those who are travelling to work I would like to see more local facilities that they and their families could use nearer to home for sports and recreational facilities. It is important to have safe paths and cycle lanes in areas that are well lit around our villages and safe roads on which to travel in order that people can get out and enjoy their local environment. I feel I am young enough to have the energy to be a councillor and yet I have a broad experience of life through my interactions with many people in the community. I will do my best to serve the people of Trim and South Meath. I stand on my record of delivery and will make the same effort to deliver for all people in the constituency.
