Cllr John Hegarty

John has been a member of Wexford County Council since 2009 and was elected as Cathaoirleach of the County Council in 2017-18. Having previously represented the Gorey District on the Council, he now represents Wexford Borough District.

He created the Wexford Ambassador Programme, the aim of which is to get Wexford people to champion Wexford when they are abroad, in terms of tourism and business development. Ambassadors include Tadhg Furlong, Billy Walsh and Dermot O’Leary, to name but a few.

He was also instrumental in establishing the NZEB Center of Excellence in the County, working in conjunction with the United Nations and also in establishing a campus of The American College, Georgia Southern University in Wexford Town.

As a former Wexford Senior Footballer, he remains heavily involved in Wexford GAA, in both Hurling and Football, as well as working with local communities to develop their facilities.

He is happily married with 4 children.
