Cllr Shay Cullen

Electoral Area: Wicklow

Wicklow Council

Cllr Shay Cullen

Shay Cullen grew up in Roundwood and went to De La Salle Secondary School in Wicklow Town where he got his first job in Wire Ropes. Married to Rona with two children, Shay now lives in Ballinahinch, Newtownmountkennedy.

Shay is working hard to assist small indigenous businesses, emphasising opportunities for our youth, and working with community and voluntary groups, clubs and organisations to ensure that they are given the best help and support that the Council can provide. Shay believes there is great potential to grow Wicklow tourism and to further develop and promote Wicklow artisan food. With a strong belief in the role of sport, Shay’s close association with the GAA has allowed him represent the county at all levels. Shay is also committed to rural issues in Wicklow – developed from his work experience, initially with the Wicklow Corn Company in Rathnew and now with Glen Fuels in Kilmacanogue. His farming interests make him a valued contributor at committee level within farming and agri-business organisations.

Shay has been a County Councillor since 2014; he was elected as Leas-Chathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council in June 2020, and will hold that office for twelve months.
