Fine Gael Ireland South MEP and member of the European Parliament's Commission of Inquiry into the Volkswagen Emissions scandal, Deirdre Clune, has welcomed the Committee’s final report on the use of defeat devices which was adopted in the European Parliament, Strasbourg. The report called for compensation for European consumers, as well as highlighting the ways in which car testing and the supervisory process must be improved to prevent the use of defeat devices in the future.

Clune concerned that €16 airline surcharge will increase airfares and inconvenience consumers when booking flights
Ireland South Fine Gael MEP and member of the EU Tourism Taskforce, Deirdre Clune has expressed her concern on the impact on air travellers of a €16 surcharge on all Lufthansa flights purchased outside of their own website. The move will affect tickets bought for Lufthansa itself as well as other airlines in their control such as Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines and Swiss airlines.

Speaking as the first boats of migrants were returned to Turkey this morning, the Ireland South MEP said that the message from Europe must be that we are only welcoming genuine refugees.
