Catherine was first elected to the 24th Seanad in April 2011 as Fine Gael Seanad spokesperson on European Affairs. She was re-elected in 2016 as Deputy Leader of the Seanad and spokesperson on Children. She has been a consistently strong vocal advocate for children’s health and wellbeing.
Catherine is originally from Mayo and is a solicitor with expertise in the area of commercial litigation. She speaks fluent Italian having studied at the Università di Verona.
The Arts, Tourism and Healthcare, particularly fighting Ireland’s obesity epidemic have been a focus of much of Catherine’s work in the Seanad.
Catherine chaired the Joint Oireachtas Committee on the Eighth Amendment which involved building bridges across the political divide to achieve results. More recently, she was selected to contest the next General Election in Dublin Bay North.
Throughout her years of involvement with Fine Gael in Dublin, both in Local and General Elections, she has gained tremendous experience and made many good friends.
