Public should ensure they are registered to vote for the Children’s Referendum
20th September 2012 - Alan Farrell TD
Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell, has appealed to residents in Dublin Fingal to ensure that they are on the Register of Electors ahead of the Children’s Referendum on Saturday 10th November.
“It is important to ensure that you have your say on 10th November. This is only possible if you are on the Register of Electors.
“The Children’s Referendum is a major decision for our country. Its aim is to amend the Constitution to protect children, support families, remove inequalities in adoption and recognise children in our constitution.
“It is also the first referendum to be held on a Saturday in almost a decade, something I have been campaigning for since I introduced legislation to the Dáil recently to provide for weekend voting. Saturday voting will ensure that the maximum number of people across the country will have the opportunity to have their voices heard .
“This important Constitutional amendment comes after 20 years of debate, numerous Church and State scandals, bad practice by our professional services and lack of resources by previous Governments.
“I want to encourage every citizen to familiarise themselves with the debate that will take place to ensure that they are available on Saturday 10th November to vote and express their view.
“The Government’s website for information is http://www.childrensreferendum.ie. To ensure t
hat you are eligible to vote in this Referendum, you can check the live Register at www.checktheregister.ie, or log onto www.alanfarrell.ie.”
