Fine Gael knows the cost of living is still high and that it’s more expensive to do the weekly shop, pay your bills and fuel your car. We want to put more money in your pocket – and one of the ways we are doing that is through the Rent Tax Credit.

If you’re a renter, you’ll be entitled to €500 for 2022 and another €500 for 2023

That’s €1,000 back in your pocket

So, how do you claim the Rent Tax Credit?

All you have to do is follow these simple steps to get up to €1,000 back in your pocket.

If you are a PAYE taxpayer:

  1. Go to Revenue.ie
  2. Sign into myAccount
  3. Click on ‘Review your Tax’ and select 2022
  4. Request a ‘Statement of Liability’ and click on ‘Complete your Income Tax Return’
  5. In the ‘Tax Credits & Reliefs’ page select ‘You and your family’ and click on ‘Rent Tax Credit’
  6. Once you’ve completed the form, click ‘Complete’ and submit your Income Tax Return.

If you are self-assessed:

  1. Go to Revenue.ie
  2. Sign into ROS
  3. Open the ‘My Services’ screen
  4. Click on ‘File Return’
  5. Select ‘Income Tax’ from the dropdown menu
  6. Select the tax year for which your wish to file a return (select 2022)
  7. Locate the ‘Rent Tax Credit’ section of the tax return and enter the information requested.
