What does Stronger, Safer Community in Dublin Metropolitan Region mean to you?

A CHARA,

Strong, safe communities are the backbone of Irish society. We saw this every day during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Fine Gael is committed to supporting communities in every part of Ireland. There is major investment happening across Ireland in education, in community facilities and in sports.

For communities to grow and to be stronger they also need to be safe. That means backing the Gardaí with the resources, staff and laws they need to do their job, but it also means working hard to tackle disadvantage, improve community facilities and investing in deterrence.

SUPPORTING AN GARDA SÍOCHÁNA LOCALLY

Our constituency of Dún Laoghaire is served by the Dublin Metropolitan Region (DMR) East of An Garda Síochana. There are 372
members of An Garda serving our communities in this Garda region. In addition, there are over 100 gardaí working to make roads safer for
all across Dublin.

TACKLING DOMESTIC, SEXUAL AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

We need to stamp out domestic, sexual and gender-based violence.

We need a zero-tolerance approach. Fine Gael in Government and Minister Helen McEntee is driving a whole-of-government approach focus on this focused on:

  1. PREVENTION
  2. PROTECTION
  3. PROSECUTION
  4. CO-ORDINATED POLICIES

The Supporting a Victim’s Journey: A Plan to help Victims and Vulnerable Witnesses in Sexual Violence Cases is being implemented with the new Sexual Offences Bill, expanded legal aid and counselling, a nationwide campaign on consent and increased Garda training in areas like trauma awareness.

STRONGER LAWS

Fine Gael is also working to make communities stronger and safer with Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, leading the work with major law reform.

  1. Policing, Security and Community Safety Bill, Fine Gael is helping to modernise An Garda and provide a world class policing service.
  2. The Garda Síochana Digital Recording Bill will help keep communities and Gardaí safe by improving the use of CCTV and introducing body-worn cameras for Gardaí.
  3. The Gambling Regulation Bill will set up a new Gambling Regulator and make it easier to deal with problem gambling.

TAKING THE ILL-GOTTEN GAINS OF CRIMINALS AND USING IT TO INVEST IN COMMUNITIES

For over 25 years, CAB, the Criminal Assets Bureau has made sure that crime doesn’t pay. CAB has successfully seized the proceeds of crime from criminals and organised crime gangs. Building on the success of CAB, Fine Gael in government has launched the new Community Safety Innovation Fund.

This will take money seized by CAB and invest in communities where it make a real difference.
