FF Rent U-Turn shows dire need for their legal advice to be published
21st January 2020 -
When did FF receive the advice?
There is a dire need for Darragh O’Brien and Fianna Fáil to publish the legal advice he has received in relation to the constitutionality and workability of the Planning & Development (First Time Buyers) Bill 2019.
Fine Gael Dún Laoghaire candidate, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill – a barrister and author of legal books – made the publication call after a Fianna Fáil u-turn on rent freeze which they blamed on legal advice.
“Today, Fianna Fáil u-turned on rent freezes saying they are now opposed to them after previously saying they were for them.
“Darragh O’Brien blamed legal advice Fianna Fáil had received for this flip-flop on rent control.
“He needs to immediately publish that advice with the date on which he received it. He also needs to set out the date on which this advice was requested. This is especially important as Micheál Martin has consistently expressed support for such controls, the voters deserve to know was he trying to con them.”
“Fianna Fáil should also publish the legal advice that he has received in relation to the Planning & Development (First Time Buyers) Bill 2019. This bill has been much trumpeted by Fianna Fáil but is viewed as extremely legally problematic. He needs to publish that legal advice also.”
