From Bertie to the SSIA: FF intent on dragging Ireland back to our darkest days – Brophy
26th January 2020 -
Fianna Fáil in office would drag Ireland back to the past and inflict untold damage on an economy and society that has spent years getting back on its feet, Fine Gael candidate in Dublin South West, Colm Brophy, has said.
“Between policy initiatives that are straight out of the Charlie McCreevy handbook, in the form of an SSIA scheme for first time buyers, to Micheál Martin’s admission that he would rely on former disgraced Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, for Brexit negotiations, it is clear that Fianna Fáil is completely devoid of ideas and intent on dragging Ireland back to our darkest days,” Deputy Brophy said.
“Fianna Fáil’s SSIA scheme would increase house prices, but not supply, making it impossible for young people to own their own homes. Now, Martin’s admission that Fianna Fáil’s Brexit negotiating team would call on their former leader for advice – the man who blew up our economy, conned the Irish people and was ultimately expelled from his own party – will send shivers up the spines of those who’ve lived through the recession.
“Fianna Fáil is devoid of ideas, devoid of credible plans and devoid of an experienced team to lead Ireland through phase two of Brexit negotiations
“Fine Gael, on the other hand, has a fully costed plan for the future and an expert team, in the Taoiseach, Tanaiste and Helen McEntee, who have solid relationships and a proven track record of delivering for Ireland in Europe.
“Ireland has come so far. Irish people deserve better than what Fianna Fáil is offering,” Deputy Brophy said.
