Byrne condemns desecration of Cosgrave grave
21st October 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael TD for Dublin South Central, Catherine Byrne, has condemned last night’s desecration of the grave of WT Cosgrave in Goldenbridge Cemetery, Inchicore.
“I was shocked at the news that considerable damage was done to the grave and tombstone of WT Cosgrave in Goldenbridge Cemetery last night.
“Cosgrave, who was the first head of an independent Irish Government, is laid to rest in a simple grave in Inchicore. I am sure this vandalism has caused his family great upset.
“Goldenbridge Cemetery has a proud history, being the one of the first Catholic cemeteries established in the country after Catholic emancipation. Other graves in the Inchicore cemetery were also damaged in the incident last night, and I am genuinely appalled that such a sacred place could be targeted by vandals.”
