New Applegreen store is good for Wicklow producers- Doyle
4th July 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael TD for Wicklow, Andrew Doyle, has welcomed the expansion of the Applegreen Retail Network and highlighted the opportunity for the retailer to support local producers in Wicklow. Deputy Doyle was speaking this week at the opening of the new Applegreen Retail Outlet in Coynes Cross by Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, T.D.
“The expansion of the Applegreen Retail Network is extremely good news for job creation and also in terms of the potential for the network to provide internal space to promote and sell local produced goods.
“Three hundred and sixty jobs will be created at new Applegreen stations across the country and this kind of investment is very important in the context of the Government’s commitment to regional job creation.
“In addition it is very encouraging to note that the Applegreen brand is constantly evolving. As Minister Bruton pointed out at today’s launch, options are being explored to promote and profile local produce within the retail network through the provision of dedicated internal space in each Applegreen.
“This is a great development that can only have positive implications for local community based indigenous industry which is of vital importance, now more than ever.
“I am very encouraged that Applegreen have officially opened their new service station at the Coynes Cross Junction, particularly with the proposal to provide internal space for Wicklow producers to showcase their wares. The 75 jobs created at the Wicklow depot is already ahead of the 60 originally envisaged. Nationally, the 360 additional jobs will aid regional development and increased economic activity around the country.”
