Sense must prevail for South East University – Deering
23rd October 2014 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael TD for Carlow/Kilkenny, Pat Deering, has today (Thursday) called for sense to prevail on the matter of the university for the South East and has encouraged all stakeholders to find a solution to the current impasse.
“I was most concerned to hear that the future of the university for the South East is at risk and I am calling for sense to prevail on this matter. We need cool heads now and for everybody involved to come together to find a workable solution.
“I commend the heads of Carlow and Waterford Institutes of Technology for taking prompt action today (Thursday) to meet with the Minster for Education and the Higher Education Authority.
“This is the only show in town for the future of education in the South East. Furthermore the university is incredibly important for the region’s economy. Its establishment would be a huge boost for the South East as it would encourage inward investment and be a real incentive for companies to locate here.
“I urge all stakeholders to find a way out of the current impasse. My door is always open to anyone who wants to work to find a way forward with this project, which would be of huge benefit to everyone in the South East.”
