100 new jobs for Shannon signals great start to 2015 – Carey
19th January 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Clare TD Joe Carey, has said that the announcement today by Amax that they are to create 100 new jobs in Shannon is most welcome news and represents a great start to 2015 for County Clare and the Mid-West region.
Deputy Carey said the jobs announcement is testament to Government creating the right conditions for job creation, and is a vote of confidence in Shannon and the Mid-West region.
“Today AMAX announced 100 new jobs are to be created in Shannon over the next 5 years, with the opening of a European manufacturing facility at Western Business Park.
“The fact that this major international company has decided to locate its European headquarters in Shannon together with its logistics hub, is a strong vote of confidence in the region, in Government policy, and in Ireland as a whole.
“The jobs being created will be in production, warehousing, finance and sales. AMAX has been supported by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through IDA Ireland, who have been strongly involved in assisting AMAX’s expansion in Ireland.
“The kinds of roles to be created are high-end engineering and automation positions. AMAX provides engineering solution design, global logistics & certification support with fully custom-branded server-to-rack level appliance solutions for its customers globally.
“The company was looking to expand into Europe and it is highly significant that they have chosen Shannon as the site for their new European base. The significant turnaround at Shannon since we took office has ensured that the future is bright for the Airport and surrounding area.
“In general there is massive potential in the ICT sector and these are exactly the kinds of jobs Ireland wants to attract if we are to keep pace with developments in global markets in the years ahead. The fact that Shannon is central to AMAX’s plans is a great sign that the future is bright for Shannon and for County Clare.
“We are on track to get unemployment down to below 10% this year, creating in the region of 40,000 jobs in 2015 alone.”
