39 new nurses for Naas General is good for the hospital and good for local jobs – Lawlor
3rd February 2015 - Fine Gael Press Office
“39 new nurses are to be hired at Naas General Hospital”, says Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor.
“This announcement is most welcome considering the pressure the hospital has been under lately, especially in the Emergency Department (ED). I am delighted with the announcement that Naas General Hospital is to get an additional 39 staff. Having met regularly with management and staff at the hospital, one key issue was that they could not recruit in the way that Tallaght Hospital can and the recruitment through the National recruitment Service is not fit for purpose. Today’s announcement allows the hospital to recruit locally in filling these posts and that’s a very welcome development. I would encourage locals who may be looking for employment to apply directly to the hospital.
“Today’s announcement also means that staff can postpone the proposed nurses’ strike. While 39 new nurses won’t solve all the problems, it will go a long way towards alleviating the pressure on the current staff and will also improve patient safety standards generally.
“The Government lifted the public sector recruitment embargo last year to allow for the hiring of frontline staff. Nowhere has this been more necessary than in our hospitals and I am delighted that Naas General is now going to benefit from that.”
