Richmond welcomes postponement of LUAS strike days & calls for increased discussion
25th May 2016 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael Dublin Rathdown Senator, Neale Richmond, has welcomed the postponement of LUAS strike days for Thursday 26th and Friday 27th May and has called on TransDev and the relevant unions involved to engage in greater discussion.
“The postponement of Luas strikes tomorrow and Friday is extremely welcome and it will come as a great relief to the 90,000 daily users of the LUAS.
“With 12 strike days already having a negative impact on the daily lives of LUAS users, it is vital now that the management of LUAS operator TransDev and the unions representing striking workers increase the level of discussion in the coming days to try resolve this impasse.
“With a series of stoppages planned through June which could impact upon students undertaking state examinations, causing more duress at an already stressful period, it is vital that all parties seek to end the strikes and get the LUAS back operating fully without delay.
“Across Dublin, commuters have had to make alternative travel arrangements at considerable expense and inconvenience. The many commuters in my local area who use the LUAS on a daily basis are sick and tired of the disruption and simply want a return to normality with a reliable public transport service.”
