Limerick schools among the best in Ireland – Byrne

Limerick schools feature prominently on college feeder list
Fine Gael Limerick Senator, Maria Byrne, has highlighted that Limerick schools have featured prominently in a list compiled by Independent News and Media detailing the best schools in Ireland on the basis of college entry.
“It is great to see Limerick schools featuring so prominently on the list of best schools in Ireland. Our local schools are achieving real success in terms of encouraging students to go on to third level education once they have completed their Leaving Certificate.
“Laurel Hill has come second on the non-fee paying list of college feeder schools nationally. On the fee paying side, Glenstal Abbey has topped the national list in terms of college attendance. In both of these schools 100% of students went on to third level, which is an excellent achievement.
“Other Limerick city schools achieving 100% college attendance include: Ard Scoil Iognaid Ris CBS and Villiers Secondary School.
“Schools that also have high college attendance rates include: Gaelcholáiste Luimnigh; Crescent Comprehensive; Castletroy Community College; St Munchin’s College; and St Clement’s College.
“Fine Gael in Government is prioritising education in order to secure our country’s future. The Minister for Education, Richard Bruton, has a comprehensive plan to make Ireland’s education service the best in Europe within the decade. The plan aims to see a 30% increase in the number of students from disadvantaged areas attending higher level as well as better supports for children in difficulty. I am glad to see Limerick schools already doing well in this regard and I hope to see this continue.”
