Councillor Lynsey McGovern joins Fine Gael
25th October 2017 - Fine Gael Press Office
Fine Gael has today welcomed Councillor Lynsey McGovern to the party.
Councillor McGovern said: “I have decided to accept the invitation from Fine Gael to join the party.
“I believe that being part of the Fine Gael party will enable me to make a much bigger difference to the people I represent in the Sandyford/Glencullen ward and all the people of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown.
“I developed a great working relationship with my Fine Gael colleagues on Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council over the last three years in relation to policy and budgetary matters and it is therefore a natural progression for me to now join the party.
“There is strength in numbers and that’s key in getting decisions over the line at the end of the day. It is of my view that the support that will be available to me from Fine Gael and its members will be of enormous assistance in my role as a county councillor.
“I will now have much wider access and support to councillors both locally and nationally and access to national politicians, decision makers and government ministers.
“My particular areas of interest are to work on improving our local infrastructure, increasing transport links to ease traffic congestion, affordable housing, parks and sports development; and on a national level assist with improving the affordable childcare benefits and healthcare issues.
“As an active local representative for the Fine Gael party, I believe I will be in a stronger position to deliver on my goals and ideas to improve the lives of people living in Sandyford/Glencullen Ward.
“I am looking forward to working with my new colleagues both nationally and locally. I will continue to work very hard to behalf of the constituents of Dun Laoaghaire Rathdown to make the communities we live in better for all,” Councillor McGovern said.
Fine Gael TD for Dublin Rathdown, Josepha Madigan, said: “I am delighted to welcome Lynsey McGovern into the Fine Gael party.
“We were colleagues on Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council from 2014 until my election as a TD in 2016. She is an impressive, hardworking representative for the people of Sandyford/Glencullen and I look forward to working closely with her for our mutual constituents.
“Lynsey’s decision to join Fine Gael bears testament to the party’s strong work locally and shows that our national message is resonating. Fine Gael is the party of opportunity and I look forward to working with Lynsey to progress this vision locally.”
Fine Gael Senator, Neale Richmond, said: “Cllr Lynsey McGovern is a brilliant addition to the Fine Gael family and I am genuinely thrilled to have her join the party.
“Lynsey and I worked closely together on the County Council for two years where she was a wonderful colleague who clearly sought to represent her local area as best possible.
“I look forward to continue to working with Lynsey and Cllr Emma Blain for the Glencullen – Sandyford area.”
Fine Gael councillor for Glencullen/Sandyford, Emma Blain, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Lynsey to the Fine Gael team on Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and particularly in Glencullen Sandyford.
“I look forward to continuing and strengthening our good working relationship in representing the people of our local electoral area.”
