Decision to approve Ringaskiddy Incinerator is very disappointing – Stanton
31st May 2018 - David Stanton TD
Minister of State at the Department of Justice, David Stanton, has expressed his disappointment that An Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission for an incinerator at Ringaskiddy. The waste-to-energy incinerator will be built and operated by Indaver Ireland Ltd.
Minister Stanton said: “It was with great sadness that I learned this morning of An Bord Pleanala’s decision to not accept the An Bord Pleanala Inspector’s report and so to grant permission for the development of an incinerator at Ringaskiddy.
“I have been opposed to this project from the start as I believe it will a have a negative impact not just on the current, but also on future plans for the harbour area.
“The incinerator will be developed at a 13.55 hectare site and will be used to treat both hazardous and non-hazardous waste. I believe, like many local people and my Oireachtas colleagues, that Cork Harbour is not the best location for this project.
“The Cork area is home to hundreds of thousands of people and hundreds of millions euro has been invested in clean and renewable energy research, a greatly improved new Cork Harbour wastewater project by Irish Water, the clean-up of and future plans for Haulbowline East Tip and also in tourist attractions such as Spike Ireland.
“I am sure that many of my constituents in Cork East and people across the entire harbour area will share in my disappointment of today’s decision,” the Fine Gael Minister said.
