Sinn Féin’s mask slips again- Farrell
12th January 2019 - Alan Farrell TD
Sinn Féin’s mask has slipped again after two party representatives attended the inauguration of controversial Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Fine Gael TD Alan Farrell has said.
Deputy Farrell, a Dublin Fingal TD and Chair of the Oireachtas Children and Youth Affairs Committee – responding to comments made by Sinn Féin’s Mary Lou McDonald – said, “Ireland is a democracy, we have the rule of law, human rights, independent courts, free speech and notwithstanding our many problems, close to full employment, ever improving living standards and falling poverty.
‘Venezuela, once a wealthy country, is sliding towards dictatorship. Extreme oppressive and socialist policies have caused over two million people to flee, there are human rights abuses, a shortage of essential goods and rising infant mortality.”
‘Yet Sinn Féin chose to send two representatives to celebrate the inauguration of Nicolás Maduro. The attempt to create any sort of equivalence between Ireland and Venezuela shows us how extreme Sinn Féin really is. The mask slips again,” Deputy Farrell said.
