Fianna Fáil Must Answer Serious Questions on Brexit and the Economy – O’Donovan
16th January 2020 -
FIANNA Fáil must answer serious questions on Brexit and the economy, Minister of State for Finance Patrick O’Donovan this morning said.
Speaking this morning, Minister O’Donovan said; “Fianna Fáil’s position on Brexit is a shambles.”
“Their only MEP in the European Parliament has stated that he will vote down the UK’s Withdrawal Agreement. If the deal was voted down, this would mean a return to a hard border on the island of Ireland on the 1st of February.
“Now Micheal Martin is saying that Billy Kelleher would vote in favour of the Agreement. Demonstrating that Fianna Fáil are in complete disarray on this issue and can’t be trusted on the major issues.”
Minister O’Donovan continued; “Fianna Fáil’s economic record is appalling. They plunged people, families, businesses and communities across this country into economic turmoil that has taken a decade to recover from.
“Alarm bells should be ringing in every home, farm and business in Ireland as Fianna Fail attempt to portray themselves as economically literate. In the first six months of 2019 Fianna Fáil promised an additional €4.5billion in public spending without saying where they’d get the money from, hardly a responsible approach to take.”
Minister O’Donovan said Fianna Fáil must answer the following questions –
- What is their party’s position on Brexit?
- How do Fianna Fáil propose to raise €4.5 billion in additional revenue to pay for their promises of additional spending? Do they want to raise taxes or increase borrowing?
