Fine Gael leads the way with most female councillors

Fine Gael has demonstrated its leadership in female political representation by electing more female councillors than any other Irish political party.

With an impressive total of 66 women now elected, Fine Gael is entering the next 5 years of local government with 6 more women at the table.

The party attributes initiatives such as candidate development programmes, campaign training, and comprehensive community outreach as the main drivers for its success. Additionally, with the support of our Women’s Network, a mentorship programme was developed for all aspirant candidates.

Leader of Fine Gael, An Taoiseach Simon Harris, highlighted the importance of continuing this upward trend, saying:

“Fine Gael is proud to lead once again with the highest number of female candidates. I am immensely proud of all our female candidates who put their trust in Fine Gael and their name on the ballot paper.  We need strong women to represent our communities and to work closely with me in Government to deliver on the issues that matter to people.  But we know there is more to do. We need to work harder to convince more women that politics is a rewarding career, and that Fine Gael is the party that will empower and support women to drive meaningful change and create a lasting impact in their communities”.

Sarah-Jane Wogan, Co-Chair of the Fine Gael Women’s Network, added:

“I would hope our newly elected female candidates have inspired more women to run for election in the future for Fine Gael. Fine Gael have demonstrated how nurturing and encouraging women by preparing them for a campaign and supporting them through their campaign leads to success.
