Metrolink on track for Dublin with inclusion in NDP – Boland
22nd July 2025 - Grace Boland
The long-awaited Metrolink is one step closer for Dublin commuters, with funding provided for it in the National Development Plan (NDP), a Fine Gael TD has said.
Deputy Grace Boland, Fine Gael TD for Dublin Fingal West said the funding of €2 billion will come as a welcome relief to people across Dublin who have been eagerly waiting for the project to go ahead.
The NDP states that ‘The Government has identified the need to provide support for the development of low carbon transport projects such as Metrolink before 2030. Given the unique scale of the Metrolink, Government has decided to fund it from the Infrastructure, Climate and Nature Fund’.
Deputy Grace Boland said: “It’s fantastic to see the inclusion of this ringfenced funding for the Dublin Metrolink in the NDP. Metrolink will provide much needed connections between Dublin City, Dublin Airport and Swords.
“This funding is essential to get the project off the ground and marks a significant step forward. Metrolink will be transformative, it’s essential for communities across North County Dublin and, for commuters throughout the wider Dublin area who need reliable, accessible public transport.
“We all know Metrolink will be a gamechanger for Dublin and its inclusion in the NDP provides strong confirmation of Government’s commitment to getting this project in place.
“A decision is expected on planning for the Metrolink by the end of the summer. It is vital that this process moves without further delay so that the project can begin in earnest and deliver the public transport improvements which our communities have long awaited.” concluded Deputy Boland.
