Statement from Senator Maria Byrne
22nd October 2025 - Senator Maria Byrne
Fine Gael Senator Maria Byrne has welcomed the fact that a High Court petition from an unsuccessful Labour party candidate challenging a Seanad panel election has been dismissed today.
Senator Maria Byrne was elected on the agricultural panel in the Seanad elections earlier this year.
The High Court case was taken by the Labour party’s Councillor Angela Feeney.
Senator Byrne said: “I welcome the outcome today. I would like to thank the former Seanad Clerk Mr Groves and the count staff for their professionalism in carrying out the Seanad Count.
“I am glad that this matter has concluded today.
“I remain focused on my work in Seanad Éireann as Leas Cathaoirleach and a Senator and remain committed to working on behalf of everyone in Limerick.”
“We have numerous issues in Limerick that people want resolved and that is where my focus is.”
