House completion figures show real momentum – Carrigy

A 13% increase in home completions shows the Government’s commitment to accelerating housing delivery and tackling the housing crisis head-on, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Chair of the Oireachtas Housing Committee Micheál Carrigy said: “The figures released by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) are a strong signal that house building is gaining momentum. More homes mean more families can put down roots, more renters can transition into ownership and communities can thrive”

Figures released by the CSO show there were 24,325 homes completed in the first nine months of 2025, which is a 13% increase on the same period last year. It is also the highest number of completions recorded in the first nine months of any year since the CSO started tracking the data in 2011.

“Record housing investment is clearly making an impact. But everyone knows the job isn’t done, and the Government is committed and determined to keep pushing forward,” Deputy Carrigy said.

Other highlights in the CSO data include:

• Apartment completions in Q3 2025 stood at 3,160, up 3% on the same quarter in 2024.
• There were 4,551 scheme dwelling completions in Q3 2025, an increase of 1% from Q3 2024.
• The number of single dwellings completed in Q3 2025 was 1,524, up 15% from Q3 2024.
• Almost half of completions (49%) were scheme dwellings, 34% were apartments, and 17% were single dwellings.
• The number of completions was up 35% in the Mid-East (Kildare, Louth, Meath, and Wicklow) region in Q3 2025, compared with same quarter last year.
• The Local Electoral Area (LEA) with the most completions in Q3 2025 was Clondalkin at 640.
• There was a fall of 4% in seasonally adjusted new dwelling completions from Q2 2025 to Q3 2025.

Deputy Carrigy concluded saying: “There is progress, but the Government can’t rest on its laurels. Planning reforms, targeted rental supports and new buyer schemes are all part of the drive to make housing more accessible and affordable.”
