Offside! FAI need to revisit pricing structure for jerseys – Scahill
2nd February 2026 - Senator Gareth Scahill
The cost of the new Football Association of Ireland (FAI) kits is a slap in the face to loyal fans, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Senator Gareth Scahill said: “Asking families to pay these kinds of prices for a single jersey is completely unacceptable. Irish fans have stood by this team through thick and thin and this is how they’re repaid.”
A replica jersey is priced by the FAI and its manufacturer Castore at €105, while a lightweight version described as the ‘pro jersey’ will set consumers back by €145. The children’s replica jersey has been set at €85.
“These price tags are ignoring the reality of the cost-of-living issues that many people are facing in this country,” Senator Scahill continued.
“The FAI continually talk about growing the game and making soccer more accessible, yet they take decisions like this which do the exact opposite.”
He says the FAI and Castore should reconsider the pricing structure and to speak with fan representatives before any future kit launches.
“Fans want to wear and own the jerseys, but not at a price which is going to exclude the very people who create the atmosphere, passion and identity synonymous with Irish soccer.”
Senator Scahill concluded by saying: “In two months, the Irish soccer team will have the entire country behind them as they try to qualify for a World Cup for the first time in many of their young fans’ lives.
“A pricing structure like this leaves a sour taste ahead of what could be an amazing year for Irish soccer.”
