Christmas lights in Drogheda saved with fix fund – Butterly
5th December 2025 - Paula Butterly TD
The Drogheda Christmas lights will soon be switched on again after funding has been secured to carry out repairs, a Fine Gael TD has said.
Louth TD Paula Butterly this evening said that her party colleague and the Minister for Local Government, John Cummins, has confirmed to her that he will provide funding to ensure the lights can be repaired and safely reinstated as quickly as possible.
Deputy Butterly said: “I had reached out to Minister Cummins’ office today to see if it would be possible that he could provide some funding after the Christmas lights in Drogheda were damaged by recent storms.
“His rapid decision to provide funding means we can restore the festive lighting and keep the town looking its best for families, businesses, and visitors in the run-up to Christmas.
“I am grateful for his responsiveness and his ongoing support for communities in Louth.
“It was extremely fortunate that no one was injured when the lights came down earlier today.
“The situation could have been far worse and I want to thank the local authority staff and emergency crews who reacted immediately to make the area safe and begin the clean-up.
“I want to acknowledge everyone on the ground who has been working in difficult conditions today. Their efforts are greatly appreciated by the entire community, and I’m delighted that we can now look forward to lighting up the town again and creating that lovely Christmas atmosphere.”
