Coastal walk will attract extra tourists to the North Clare region – Conway

4th June 2013 - Sarah Meade

Clare Fine Gael Senator Martin Conway has today (Friday) welcomed the opening of a new walking route from Doolin to Liscannor via the Cliffs of Moher, saying it will help to attract extra tourists to the North Clare area. Senator Conway is due to attend the official opening of the 12km route later today.

“This beautiful coastal walk stretching from Doolin to Liscannor runs along 12km of the Atlantic coast, charting the most spectacular and breath-taking views. The Cliffs of Moher already draws hundreds of thousands of international visitors every year, and I am confident that the addition of this new walking route will act as an additional draw for tourists into the area.

“The coastal walk will also encourage tourists to stay longer in the area rather than just using it as a stop off.   It is a very welcomed boost to the North Clare area.

“The Cliffs, at the highest point, stand at 702 feet and on a clear day visitors can enjoy views of the Aran Islands, Galway Bay, the Dingle Peninsula and the Blasket Islands in Kerry. There is a great sense of pride for our county and country when it comes to the Cliffs of Moher and this coastal walk is the icing on the cake.

“I would like to commend Clare County Council, Clare Local Development Company, Fáilte Ireland, Burren Way and, of course, the local landowners, all of whom made this project possible.”
