Correct decision by RTÉ to restore Grafton Street show from 2026 – Ó Muirí
5th December 2025 - Naoise Ó Muirí TD
RTÉ’s decision to reinstate its long-running traditional Christmas Eve show live from Grafton Street in 2026 has been described as the correct call by a Fine Gael TD.
Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí said, “This show has always been a moment of joy and unity for the country. I am relieved that RTÉ has listened to the public calls, which I highlighted and committed to returning the traditional show to its rightful place.”
He acknowledged RTÉ’s decision to pause its Grafton Street broadcast in 2025 for operational reasons but emphasised the importance of holding onto traditions that keep communities together.
“People are craving connection and it is vital we protect and nurture traditions that unite us. RTÉ’s commitment to return to Grafton Street in 2026 and for years to come is a positive step which will be celebrated by families around Ireland.”
Deputy Ó Muirí concluded by expressing hope the renewed commitment will ensure the continuation of the broadcast:
“This decision restores faith in RTÉ’ role as a public service broadcaster. I look forward to listening again to the show next Christmas from Grafton Street along with thousands of others, to celebrate the tradition which is part of Irish and Dublin life.”
