Dual access points on all DART platforms required to improve public safety – Ward
10th March 2025 - Barry Ward TD
Iarnród Éireann needs to take steps to provide dual access and exit points to DART platforms to address public safety concerns, a Fine Gael TD has said.
Deputy Barry Ward said that there is a genuine safety issue around the fact that DART passengers must all exit through a single point at many DART stations.
This, he outlined, makes passengers a much easier target for potential offenders and is a particular concern for passengers travelling on their own at night or when DART stations are quieter.
Deputy Ward said: “Safety on public transport is a core priority of this Government and this is one tangible, long term measure that can improve safety for all passengers.
“Reconfiguring DART platforms is a relatively simple move that could have an immediate and very positive impact, both in terms of public safety and convenience.
“Following my engagement with the Minister for Transport in the Dáil Chamber, I have written to the CEO of Iarnród Éireann to seek his support for bringing this safety measure into fruition and I look forward to working with both Irish Rail and the Minister to improve passenger safety for all public transport users.”
