€1.5 million ESB Networks upgrade to benefit south and southwest Cork – Buttimer
20th October 2015 - Senator Jerry Buttimer
Fine Gael TD for Cork South Central, Jerry Buttimer, has said that communities across south and southwest Cork will benefit from a €1.5 million upgrade by ESB Networks.
“This investment means that over 200 kilometres of medium voltage lines have been upgraded, at a cost of €1.5 million. The work involved the upgrading or replacement of 460 transformers and was completed on schedule last Friday.
“Townlands standing to gain from the state of the art infrastructure include Carrigaline, Ballinhassig, Fivemile and Ballygarvan.
“Over 60 ESB Networks staff – hailing from around Cork city and county – were involved in the work, which has converted medium voltage lines from 10,000 volts to 20,000 volts.
“I would like to pay tribute to all the staff involved in this project.
“This new network will benefit communities across south and southwest Cork. The network will be more efficient and more resilient and it’s my hope it will help local businesses grow and attract inward investment.”
