€95,000 for community projects in Millstreet and surrounding areas

4th October 2013 - Deborah Sweeney

Fine Gael Cork North West Deputy, Áine Collins, has this morning (Friday) welcomed the announcement of €95,000 for local community projects in Millstreet, Charleville, Banteer, Kanturk and Newmarket from the Cork County Council Community Fund. Deputy Collins went on to say that the continued funding of local initiatives offers social outlets for local people and helps to promote civic and community pride.

“The allocation of €95,000 to seven different projects in the Cork North Central area will be welcomed by the recipients of the allocation and also by the communities they support. The beneficiaries of the funds are as follows:
• Millstreet Tidy Towns and Tourism Association – €37,500
• Charleville Sports Complex – €13,000
• Charleville Community Hall, Chapel Street – €9,500
• Charleville Community Childcare – €9,500
• Kanturk Rugby Club – €9,500
• Banteer Sports Field – €8,000
• Newmarket Community Development CYMS Hall – €8,000

“By ensuring that local initiatives such as these are properly funded, local communities can continue to maintain sporting facilities to an acceptable standard, and central focal points, such as community halls, are preserved, for the good of the entire locality.

“Community groups, sporting and local organisations, to whom the funds are allocated, are the lifeblood of communities. They work tirelessly to encourage a sense of community spirit and pride through the projects they undertake. I am delighted that these groups will benefit from these funds and I have no doubt they will put them to excellent use.”
