Feighan welcomes an extra €2.84 million funding for roads in Roscommon and Leitrim

1st June 2013 - Daniel Rowan

Fine Gael TD for Roscommon/South Leitrim, Frank Feighan, has warmly welcomed an additional €2.84 million in total funding for the repair and restoration of regional and local roads in Counties Roscommon and Leitrim.

“I welcome this total allocation of €1,727,943 to Roscommon County Council and €1,110,804 to Leitrim County Council as part of the Government’s Investing in Infrastructure & Jobs plan.

“Minister for Transport, Leo Varadkar TD, has announced this funding as part of an extra €50 million in funding nationally to repair regional and local road surfaces in 2013.

“The Government is very conscious that two successive severe winters have taken their toll on the road network. While resources are limited, there is a risk that roads can deteriorate quite rapidly and are expensive to repair if repairs and maintenance are not carried out. This additional funding will help to address the shortfall in this area.

“The work on these roads will start as soon as councils receive the grants and must be carried out this year. It must be remembered that these are extra monies for resurfacing roads and councils will not be allowed to cut their own roads budgets as a result.

“This additional funding is undoubtedly a welcome boost for Roscommon and Leitrim’s road infrastructure.”
