Fianna Fáil’s empty promises for Wexford lack credibility – D’Arcy
30th October 2015 -
Fine Gael Wexford Senator Michael D’Arcy has highlighted the gap between what Micheál Martin and Fianna Fáil say and what they actually do. The Fianna Fáil leader was in Wexford this week, promising the sun, moon and stars if returned to power.
“I would normally welcome any pledge to invest in our county from any quarter. County Wexford badly needs investment, we all know that. However Micheál Martin has no credibility when he makes these claims.
“He was, for fourteen years, part of a Fianna Fail-led Government that hardly recognised Wexford’s existence. From 1997-2011, during the boom years, when the Government’s coffers were full, not one single IDA job came to North County Wexford. Worse still, the Government sold the IDA land they held in Gorey, leaving only two acres of land in the entire county for inward industry projects with Government backing.
“Micheál Martin must surely be aware of this embarrassing legacy of neglect, as he himself was Minister for Enterprise and Employment, with direct personal responsibility for the IDA, from 2004 to 2008.
“The people of Wexford deserve better then empty promises. Micheál Martin and Fianna Fail ignored Wexford during the good times, now they are looking for votes here just when the Fine Gael led Government has put the country back on a sound footing, after Micheál Martin and his colleagues had left us on the brink of bankruptcy. We in Wexford are not that naive.”
