Free post to care homes will help us stay connected in challenging times- Carrigy

A new An Post initiative to allow free post to care homes will help us to stay connected during these challenging times, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Micheál Carrigy, who is Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on Media, Arts, Sports & Tourism, welcomed the move by An Post and encouraged people to use the service.
Senator Carrigy said: “A new An Post initiative to allow free delivery of mail to and from residents of nursing and care homes will help us keep in touch in these challenging times.
“With the public health restrictions in place, it has been very difficult for residents of nursing homes and care homes who have been missing their regular visits from family and friends. It is so important we try to stay in touch and keep connected with our loved ones, friends and neighbours.
“This initiative will allow customers send letters, large envelopes, packets and parcels up to 2kg free to residents in nursing homes, residential accommodation in the mental health or disability sectors and convalescent homes. “Allowing free post to these homes should encourage us all to write a letter with our news, or send a card or gift when there is a birthday or special occasion. “Customers can avail of this service by writing Free post where the stamp would normally be affixed and include a return address on all items.
“Normal fees will apply to business mail and all items must be sent through the post office network or post boxes.
“An Post have been an integral part of the community response to COVID-19. Post men and women up and down the country have been taking part in the An Post Community Focus initiative, checking in on older people along their delivery routes. An Post have even covered the cost of postage for older or vulnerable people who are unable to get out of the house to buy stamps. I was delighted to receive confirmation that this service will continue until 2021.
“I applaud An Post for this Community Focus project as well as this new initiative for free post to care homes. It is a fantastic service to help communities and families to stay connected. We also owe a great debt of gratitude to An Post staff, both delivery and counter staff at Post Offices throughout the country, for their continued and dedicated service throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.”
