Gains for farmers in Budget 2024 – Lombard
Budget 2024 is delivering for rural Ireland and putting money back in farmer’s pockets
10th October 2023 - Senator Tim Lombard
Farmers can be reassured that Fine Gael is looking out for rural communities by the measures included in Budget 2024, a Fine Gael Senator has said.
Senator Tim Lombard, Fine Gael’s Seanad spokesperson on Agriculture, Food, and the Marine said that agriculture is at the heart of rural communities and Fine Gael has reinforced its commitment to these communities through Budget 2024.
“The sheep sector has been under pressure in recent years and the increase in payment per ewe to €20 is a very positive step.
“This boost in payment will help to ensure a more sustainable sheep sector.
“I also welcome the extension of consanguinity relief for 5 years, which supports the transfer of farms from one generation to the next. This will provide more certainty for farmers as they make plans for their future.
“This is a vital measure to ensure the future of our farming communities and our rural areas.
“Budget 2024 shows that there is a clear will to acknowledge and understand the issues in our rural villages and towns and I am encouraged that there is also a will there to work towards delivering viable solutions, which foster growth and prosperity.
“Farmers will also see gains from the budget across other sectors. Fine Gael is committed to putting more money in people’s pockets by cutting tax and USC. This is the tenth Budget in a row this has happened to reward work and help people keep more of their hard-earned wages.
“Under Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, we are delivering for rural Ireland and farmers, building stronger safer communities, and ensuring the best start for every child”, concluded Senator Lombard.
