Govt funding will allow for development of new skateboard park in Tullow – Deering

3rd January 2014 - Sarah Meade

Fine Gael Carlow/Kilkenny TD, Pat Deering, has today (Saturday) welcomed the fact that just under €59,000 in funding has been awarded by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport to allow Carlow County Council to provide a new skateboard park in Tullow Town.

“A lot of work has already gone into this project at local level, and I am delighted that the County Council has been successful in its bid to secure funding from the Department for this project.

“The Council has collaborated with Tullow Youth Project and Tullow Boy Scouts when drawing up the plans for the skateboard park to be developed in Tullow Town Park, which already provides great recreational facilities for local residents.

“The Council estimates that the entire project will cost €80,000 to complete, including paths, lighting, equipment and landscaping. The Council has been approved a grant of just under €59,000 and will provide the rest of the funding itself.

“It is particularly positive that the Council is ready to get working on this project almost straight away. It estimates that works can be started within a fortnight and could be completed within six weeks, meaning this facility will be up and running for young people in the area in a very short timeframe.

“I would like to commend Carlow County Council for its work to date on this project, and I look forward to the completion of the new skateboard park, which will be a very positive development for the local community.”
