Housing pipeline in Dublin shows strong growth – McAdam

18th May 2026 - Fine Gael Press Office

Figures today confirming almost 25,000 apartments are currently being built on active sites across Dublin shows continued momentum in the delivery of housing, the Lord Mayor of Dublin has said.

Councillor Ray McAdam, the Fine Gael candidate in the Dublin Central bye-election, said with over 78,000 approved residential planning permissions in Dublin, real progress is being made in housing and there is a clear path for housing delivery across the county.

“It’s clear from today’s figures that the housing pipeline in Dublin remains strong, with a significant number of homes moving from planning into active construction. Of the 78,000 approved units, over 31,000 units have already begun construction activity.

“In the first quarter of this year, 15 new housing schemes have started construction, adding 1,493 homes into the construction phase. 19 schemes were completed, delivering 2,141 homes. This shows real progress in increasing our housing supply.

“Every new development completed means more people getting a home to call their own.

“We’re seeing major momentum on planning, with a 5% reduction on units waiting on a decision to a planning application in the first quarter. This highlights that the greater resourcing of An Coimisiún Pleanála has helped reduce any backlog in planning.

“Faster planning decisions provide greater certainty and will help sites move into the construction phase faster.

“Dublin Central needs a government voice so we can keep the progress going and deliver even more housing for our communities,” concluded Councillor McAdam.
