Hozier fans taken to the cleaners by touts – Rock

4th September 2019 - Noel Rock TD

Hozier fans are being taken to the cleaners rather than church by ticket touts, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Dublin North West TD, Noel Rock, hit out at re-sale websites, such as Irish-based Viagogo, for facilitating the above-price selling of tickets for Hozier’s upcoming gig before they even go on general sale.

He said: “This morning we see tickets already on sale on Viagogo for up to €120 for Hozier’s December gig in the Three Arena.

“Tickets are not due to go on general sale until Friday and will be priced from €39.90 according to promotors.

“But, just hours into the first of two limited presales, tickets are already being offered for extortionate prices on resale sites.

“This is just the latest example of touts running rough-shod over genuine fans and taking advantage of the current gap in our legislation.

“It seems we don’t even have to wait for tickets to officially go on sale to the general public for the gouging of fans to begin.

“I have introduced legislation to outlaw this practice and I am keen to see it progress as a matter of priority when the Dáíl returns.

“Already this year we have seen rugby fans ripped off by touts, as well as Electric Picnic fans and now we see it again with Hozier fans.

“We need to push forward with our anti-ticket tout legislation, the Prohibition of Above-Cost Ticket Touting Private Members’ Bill, as a matter of priority,” he concluded.
