Huge step forward for Higher Education will benefit Carlow – Deering

21st March 2018 - Pat Deering TD

The enactment today of the Technological Universities Bill is a really progressive step forward for higher education and will be of huge benefit to communities in Carlow and the South East region, a Fine Gael TD has said.

Welcoming the passing of the legislation Carlow Kilkenny TD Pat Deering said:

“This is a momentous day for Carlow. The enactment of the Technological Universities Bill allows for the coming together of Carlow and Waterford Institutes of Technology delivering a new Technological University for the South East (TUSE).

“Carlow and the wider South East region are going to benefit hugely benefit from this significant step forward for higher education.

“The Institute of Technology in Carlow is already a great asset to the town and the county. It has a well-deserved reputation for delivering high quality education all over the region. It is through the hard work of the staff of the IT and the local community that IT Carlow can stand shoulder to shoulder with any college in Ireland.

“Now this new Technological University for the South East (TUSE) will consolidate what IT Carlow has achieved over the last number of decades. The mission of our new Technological Universities is to drive development and jobs growth on a regional basis.

“Four out of five jobs created last year were created outside of Dublin and we want this trend to continue. Strengthening Technological Universities is a big part of this. The Government is working hard to deliver jobs and economic growth across every region of the country to the benefit of communities and families.”
