I am ready for Galway West campaign – Kyne / Táim réidh d’fheachtas Ghaillimh Thiar – Kyne

23rd April 2026 - Sean Kyne TD

Fine Gael Senator Seán Kyne has called on the people of Galway West to give him their number one vote or highest preference in the May 22nd bye-election.

Senator Kyne has extensive ministerial and parliamentary experience across more than two decades and says he is ready to hit the ground running and put the experience to work and continue to deliver for the people of Galway.

“The date of the bye-election has now been set, and I am ready.

“The people of Galway West deserve a strong, experienced voice in Dáil Éireann – someone who knows this constituency, has delivered for it before, and will deliver again. I’m asking for support from the people of Galway West on the 22nd of May.

“This constituency faces real and pressing challenges from housing, cost of living, transport infrastructure and the need for continued investment and opportunity in both our city and vibrant rural and Gaeltacht communities. I have the experience, the relationships within Government, and the determination to tackle these issues head-on.

“My campaign is focused on Galway’s positives and putting the city and county up as a key hub for investment in the future. I will continue to fight for the people of Galway West.

“I have delivered key projects for the people of Galway such as the State’s purchase of Aerfort Chonamara to ensure connection to our islands, delivering funding for the Dexcom Stadium right in the heart of Galway city, and delivering on the Galway Ring Road which recently got planning approval from An Comisiún Pleanála.”

Senator Kyne has served at all levels of the Oireachtas, from the Cabinet table as Government Chief Whip, Minister with responsibility for the Gaeltacht, as a TD for Galway West and as Leader of Seanad Éireann.

“I know what it takes to get things done for Galway West. I have been making the case for this area and its people for more than two decades. With Fine Gael in Government, I will be in the strongest possible position to deliver.”

He is calling on supporters and voters across Galway West from the city to Connamara and the islands to come out and vote number one or highest preference for Seán Kyne on Friday, May 22nd.

Fine Gael Director of Elections for the Galway West bye-election and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Peter Burke TD said:

“Our campaign is ready to go, we have 1,500 posters going up across Galway West, while 35,000 newsletters and 6,000 canvass cards are being delivered throughout the constituency in both English and Irish.

“The response on the doors has been really positive and people across Galway West recognise that Seán is the candidate with the experience, track record and Government connections to deliver for this constituency.”

D’iarr Seanadóir de chuid Fhine Gael, Seán Kyne, ar mhuintir Ghaillimh Thiar a vóta uimhir a haon nó an rogha is airde eile a thabhairt dó i bhfothoghchán an 22 Bealtaine.

Tá taithí fhairsing aireachta agus pharlaiminteach ag an Seanadóir Kyne thar thréimhse níos mó ná fiche bliain, agus deir sé go bhfuil sé réidh le dul i mbun oibre láithreach, an taithí sin a chur chun tairbhe agus leanúint ar aghaidh ag soláthar do mhuintir na Gaillimhe.

“Tá dáta an fhothoghcháin socraithe anois, agus táim réidh.

“Tá guth láidir, a bhfuil taithí aige, tuillte ag muintir Ghaillimh Thiar i nDáil Éireann — duine a bhfuil eolas aige ar an dáilcheantar seo, a rinne éachtaí dó cheana féin, agus a dhéanfaidh amhlaidh arís. Táim ag iarraidh tacaíochta ar mhuintir Ghaillimh Thiar ar an 22 Bealtaine.”

“Tá dúshláin fhíora agus phráinneacha roimh an dáilcheantar seo maidir le tithíocht, costas maireachtála, bonneagar iompair agus an gá atá le hinfheistíocht agus deiseanna leanúnacha inár gcathair agus inár bpobail bheoga tuaithe agus Ghaeltachta. Tá an taithí agam, na caidrimh laistigh den Rialtas agus an diongbháilteacht chun dul i ngleic go díreach leis na saincheisteanna seo.”

“Tá m’fheachtas dírithe ar ghnéithe dearfacha na Gaillimhe agus ar an gcathair agus an contae a chur chun cinn mar phríomhionad infheistíochta don todhchaí. Leanfaidh mé ag troid ar son mhuintir Ghaillimh Thiar.”

“Rinne mé éachtaí maidir le príomhthionscadail do mhuintir na Gaillimhe, mar shampla ceannach Aerfort Chonamara ag an Stát chun ceangal lenár n-oileáin a chinntiú, maoiniú a sholáthar do Staid Dexcom i gcroílár chathair na Gaillimhe, agus dul chun cinn a dhéanamh ar Bhóthar an Chiorcaid na Gaillimhe, ar ghlac An Coimisiún Pleanála le pleananna dó le déanaí.”

D’fhreastal an Seanadóir Kyne ag gach leibhéal den Oireachtas: ag bord an Rialtais mar Phríomh-Aoire an Rialtais, mar Aire a raibh freagracht air as an nGaeltacht, mar Theachta Dála do Ghaillimh Thiar, agus mar Cheannaire ar Sheanad Éireann.

“Tá a fhios agam cad is gá a dhéanamh chun rudaí a chur i gcrích do Ghaillimh Thiar. Tá an cás á dhéanamh agam don cheantar seo agus dá mhuintir le breis agus fiche bliain. Agus Fine Gael sa Rialtas, beidh mé sa suíomh is láidre is féidir chun torthaí a bhaint amach.”

Tá sé ag iarraidh ar thacadóirí agus ar vótálaithe ar fud Ghaillimh Thiar, ón gcathair go Conamara agus na hoileáin, teacht amach agus vótáil uimhir a haon nó an rogha is airde eile a thabhairt do Sheán Kyne ar an Aoine, an 22 Bealtaine.

Dúirt Stiúrthóir Toghcháin Fhine Gael d’fhothoghchán Ghaillimh Thiar agus an tAire Fiontar, Trádála agus Fostaíochta, Peter Burke TD:

“Tá ár bhfeachtas réidh le dul; tá 1,500 póstaer á gcur in airde ar fud Ghaillimh Thiar, agus tá 35,000 nuachtlitir agus 6,000 cárta canbhásála á ndáileadh ar fud an dáilcheantair i mBéarla agus i nGaeilge araon.”

“Tá an freagra ag na doirse thar a bheith dearfach i ngach cuid den dáilcheantar, agus aithníonn daoine ar fud Ghaillimh Thiar gurb é Seán an t-iarrthóir leis an taithí, an dintiúir agus na naisc Rialtais chun rudaí a chur i gcrích don dáilcheantar seo.”
