Immense legacy left by David Trimble – O’Dowd
26th July 2022 - Fergus O'Dowd TD
Fine Gael TD and Chairperson of the Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and Chairperson of the Fine Gael Northern Ireland Engagement Group, Fergus O’Dowd, has paid tribute to David Trimble following his death.
Deputy O’Dowd said, “We all know the legacy left to us by people like David Trimble.
“The Good Friday Agreement was only made possible through leaders like David who had the belief to achieve a better future for all people on this island.
“At that time, on that day, in that moment, David Trimble showed the courage of a great Statesman and made the Good Friday Agreement possible.
“He contributed an enormous amount towards securing peace in Northern Ireland, whilst accepting that the path taken would present seismic challenges for him personally and politically.
“I would like to pass on my sincerest condolences to his wife Daphne, his family and friends and the wider Unionist community,” Deputy O’Dowd said.
