Is a vote for Fianna Fáil a vote for a Sinn Féin government? – Heydon
18th January 2020 -
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin must come clean on the party’s intentions when it comes to a coalition with Sinn Féin, a Fine Gael TD said.
Martin Heydon was speaking after Fianna Fáil TD Pat the Cope Gallagher said he would favour a coalition with Sinn Féin.
Deputy Heydon said: “We are less than a week into the 2020 General Election campaign and already Fianna Fáil are lining themselves up for a coalition with Sinn Féin.
“It has been reported many Fianna Fáil deputies, including their Donegal representative, are willing to form a partnership with Sinn Féin. It is very clear Fianna Fáil will do anything to clutch at power.
“Everyone needs to be warned, if people vote for Fianna Fáil, they are also voting for a potential Government with Sinn Féin.
“Micheál Martin needs to put an end to the constant speculation on this matter, he should clarify what his own position is and outline how he intends to deal with party members who have opposing views.
“Fine Gael has always been clear that any Government comprising of Sinn Féin would spell disaster for the country. It would ruin the good work of Fine Gael in leading us to a position where we are at full employment with Brexit still looming on the horizon.
“Fine Gael has always been very clear when it comes to Sinn Féin. We will not consider any form of Government with them,” he concluded.
