Is Sinn Féin leader ignoring PSNI investigation? – Doherty
20th November 2020 - Regina Doherty
Fine Gael Senator Regina Doherty has called on Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald to clarify if she was one of the Sinn Féin members written to by investigators appointed by the PSNI over two months ago, and if she has responded.
Senator Doherty said, “Five months after the Bobby Storey funeral, and two months on from Deputy McDonald’s commitment to cooperating with the subsequent PSNI investigation, it is now public knowledge that no one from the leadership of Sinn Fein has engaged with the investigation in any meaningful way whatsoever.
“Regardless of laws or rules broken at the funeral, the question must be asked; was Mary Lou contacted by those overseeing the investigation in respect of this case, and has she, as previously committed to, ‘absolutely cooperated’ with the investigation?
“More specifically, was Mary Lou asked to attend a PSNI interview, and if not, why has she not done this yet?
“I find it shocking that none of those in Sinn Féin that were written to by the PSNI investigators have responded in any engaging and meaningful manner and deeply concerning that the leader of their party has so far chosen not to engage in a substantive manner with the police investigation”, Senator Doherty concluded.
