Kildare Senior Citizens who worked in UK urged to apply for Fuel Allowance

Fine Gael TD for Kildare North, Anthony Lawlor, is urging pensioners who once lived and worked in the UK, but are now living in Ireland, to apply for the UK Winter Fuel Allowance. This tax free payment is worth between €115 and €350. But urgency is required as the deadline for receipt of applications is March 31st 2013.

“I am joining with my other Fine Gael colleagues in encouraging older people who worked in the UK to apply for this allowance. Previously this allowance was only available to those who transferred it from the UK. But following a European Court of Justice Ruling last year, if you never claimed for the Fuel Allowance while you lived in the UK you are now entitled to apply for it although you are resident in Ireland.

“The only conditions for applying for the UK Winter Fuel Allowance is that you were born on or before the 5th July 1951 and have a ‘genuine and sufficient link’ with the UK. Of course if you are in receipt of a British State Pension this would be hugely helpful in making your application.

“I am sure there of a large number of Kildare Pensioners who are eligible for this Fuel Allowance and I am encouraging you to apply without delay to ensure you can benefit from this new European Ruling.
